Desktop Pet privacy policy
Every Pet Matters ยท Last updated October 26, 2026
In short: your pets and settings stay on your device. The only thing that ever leaves it is a pet photo you choose to upload, which is used once to pick your pet's colors and is not kept.
This policy covers the Desktop Pet browser extension and the Desktop Pet apps for Mac and Windows, made by Every Pet Matters.
What stays on your device
Your pets (their names, looks, outfits and sizes), where they sit on the screen, your break-reminder setting, and the list of sites where you've hidden pets are saved on your own computer. In the browser extension they're kept in Chrome's extension storage. We don't have accounts, and we can't see any of this.
Pet photos
If you choose to make a pet from a photo:
- The photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our photo service, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude AI to work out your pet's colors and markings.
- Only the result (a short list of colors and settings, like "brown with stripes, floppy ears") comes back and is saved on your device.
- We don't save the photo. Our service records only how much processing each request used, not the photo or anything about you.
- Anthropic processes the photo under its commercial terms, which don't allow using it to train AI models.
If you never add a pet from a photo, nothing is ever sent.
Web pages you visit
The browser extension draws your pets on top of the pages you visit. It doesn't read, collect or send the contents of those pages or your browsing history. It only checks a page's site name to honor your "hide pets on this site" choice, and that check happens on your device.
What we don't do
- No ads, analytics or tracking.
- We don't sell or share your data, and we don't use it for anything other than making your pet.
Deleting your data
Delete a pet from the extension's toolbar menu or the app's menu, or uninstall the extension or app to remove everything it saved.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
